Computer Basics

By Larry Miller

The Computer is made up of several components lets start with the case. There are
many form factors these are different sizes and types.

I will cover the main ones for
you. The mid tower is the most common type for good design of a computer build. The
reason is there is plenty of room in the case for not only the parts but for extra fans
to help cool your components down.

Which brings us to a point where I tell you that
one of the ones, that need cooling the most is the hard drive, this is what stores your
files and your operating system which can be windows or some flavor of Linux,
os 10 by apple or maybe unix.

But anyway back to the ones that need cooling the most, the
number one Item that needs to be cooled is your cpu this is also called the computer
brain or processor this Item sits on a heat sink that is connected to your main board,

or it is also called motherboard or system board. The heat sink helps to keep it cool but
not enough by it self, there is also a fan mounted on the top of the heat sink that pulls
the hot air out From the area to help cool it.

Back to the case's, there is one called the
full tower this is by far the largest of the common types.

The mini or micro is a small form
factor case that is cute but it has limited area for cooling. The smaller cases also
require main-boards that match up with the type of case.

Most mid towers except atx
main-boards. Other Items listing the total components that make up
the computer.

#1 Your case #2 The mainboard #3 The CPU and Heat sink #4 System
Memory #5 Cd/r or dvd/r optical Drives #6 Floppy drive 3/1/2 is the most common now.
#7 Video Card this can be pci agp or the newest pci express. #8 Sound Card most of these
are the pci type #9 the power supply

these are made in different Sizes for the different
computer case's, atx is for The Mid Tower and Full tower Models. Some cases come with a power supply but the cheap cases and computer manufactures might use an under powered
Unit.

You should on most computers have at least a 350 watt power supply. Sometimes you
might need a bigger Power supply but I will talk about that later.

Some main boards also come
with built in video and sound this is OK for some that who mainly surf the web and do some word
processing, but if you play PC video games or your kids or grand kids play these games on your
computer, you will want to get a main board that has a video card slot.

To pick the best make sure it
has a pci express 16 ,agp, or pci the first mentioned is the best.

The sound card is also a good option if you want better performance and very good sound. Thanks for Reading part 1 of computer basics by Larry Miller
